Kiwi Guardian Activities
Their are a wide range of fun activity’s you can do as well, from building Weta motels, to pest tracking tunnels and even a curious camper one as well. Each of these help teach your child about conservation and the environment around them. There is easy to follow instructions and links to helpful information for each of these, so any one can do them.
We also run a club for our local rural kids called the Pelorus Conservation Club NZ, I started the club in 2018 as we did not have anything out here in the country for our kids to attend, no Guides or Scouts or even sports groups.
So I started the Conservation club and it has been a great success, I often plan events based around a Kiwi Guardian activity or adventure.
We have done things like, completed a rubbish clean up along a local lagoon before heading out to explore that lagoon on our kayaks – this was the “Become a water champion” activity.
We have also built Weta motels to hang at our local reserve (Pelorus Reserve) then headed out on a night walk to find Weta’s afterwards – this was the “Build a weta motel, habitat creator” activity.
We have done many many more activities as well and we really enjoy heading out for walks as a group.
