Cullen Point Track

This beautiful loop track has stunning views of Havelock, The Pelorus Sounds and the Mahau Sounds aswell - great entry level walk for children. We have done this walk many times over the years with our kids and always see something new every time.

Cullen Point offers two different walks, you can head up to the lookout for just a short walk to get a great view of the sounds. Only a short 10min climb to the top you will be treated with some spectacular sights. This is a great option if you have little kids or are just short on time. At the carpark you head straight up the path to the top, with a few viewing spots along the way at the top there is a nice bench seat to have a wee rest.

If you want to do a longer walk you can do the loop track, this will take down and around the the whole point and up to the look out at the top. At the start of the track you can head down to the left or the right hand side either way is fine. If you head to the left hand side you will walk get views of Havelock Marina first then around to the sound. If you head off to the right hand side you get stunning views of the sounds first the loop around past the Havelock Marina before heading up to the top.
On the right hand side you can also access part of the coast line in one small area, great to let the kids explore and life up some rocks to see the crabs and skim some stones. But be warned at low tide its very muddy!! So if you want want to put muddy kids back in the car be careful.

The full loop track takes us about 1hr to complete, along the way you can spot some great bird life. Often shags are nesting in trees not far off the track, and there are always plenty of Weka as well.
There are a few seats to rest along the track and take in some of the beautiful views.
This is a great walk to do with kids and even on an overcast day you can still get some amazing views along the way.
