Cable Car
This is an absolute must do while in Wellington kids or no kids it should not be missed.
It is a great way to get some awesome views over Wellington. It is just a short 5 minute trip up in the cable car, you jump on at the bottom at Lambton Quay and head up the top of the botanical gardens to where the Cable car museum is and also the Space Place.
You get some beautiful views along the way and go through a cool tunnel of lights.
Up the top on a clear day you can see across the harbor. Check out the cable car museum while you are there and learn all about the history of the Wellington Cable car.
There is a beautiful wee cafe were you can get a drink and a bite to eat if you like.
You could then either head back down on the car back to the city or you could even walk back down through the Botanical Gardens exploring along the way.
Otherwise you can then walk a short distance or catch the shuttle to the Zealandia Eco Sanctuary not far up the road. If you catch a late cart up you can line it up with visiting the Space Place which opens at 4pm a few days a week. Our kids really loved this ride, we actually went up twice during our stay since it was so cheap.
I highly recommend a visit.
